On Friday, I got it in my head that I needed to come up with a solution for the old chippy windows I have and how I would hang them. Terrified they would come crashing down if I tried to attach hardware to them and hang them on the wall, I decided I needed to do like our ledge wall in the dining room. So, Saturday morning I trekked to Home Depot and bought some wood and did this:

Board and Batten is pretty. And, I decided I needed a little shelf/ledge on the top so I could put the windows on to lean, as well as other works of my photography and art. I only had to make one extra trip – but will have to go back again and get more paint.
I spread the love between Home Depot and Lowe’s so I don’t look like an idiot and make multiple trips to one store in a day. I gotta look good, yo! I think the workers at Home Depot are much nicer and helpful – they don’t make you feel like a dumb woman trying to do construction jobs. But, I hate that they don’t price out their molding for finished pieces that are common (8 foot and 16 foot) – it’s all by the foot how they price so I end up overspending. I should just know how much and have them cut and be done and buy just what I need. Lowe’s wins in that area.
While caulking (which mind you, I’m the MESSIEST when it comes to this) I managed bump a board that was propped up behind me, sending it crashing down, and knocking the remaining can of Sharky Grey from Martha Stewart down to the floor. Yes, paint, on the floor. Now, not only does my driveway have Sharky Grey, so does the floor. It’s a good thing I made the decision to move the wood floor home from the studio and put it in here. Look, Behr Premium Plus Ultra is so thick and coats for a reason. Just ask my floor. Oh, and Daisy decided to run in while I was trying to clean it up. I now have little footprints to my bed. Magic Eraser should get that right up.
The plan will be to paint from the ledge down the same white I bought for the ceiling and trim. I’ll have to look that color up – damned Martha and her Sharky Grey are just cursed I tell ya!
I’ll get this all finished tomorrow and take an after shot for you. The ledge is about 2 1/2 inches out from the wall – it’s hard to tell in this shot. High enough that it will be above the height of the buffet I plan on placing there.

What a great idea. I have hung windows on the wall but you do need to anchor them well because they are heavy. I can’t wait to see the finished room. Please e-mail pics to us at the Swan
Cottage—we are going to start posting our customers finished rooms or projects using pieces they bought from The Swan Cottage on our Blog. Good Luck with your project—
Chris
