Cubby Storage & a Bulletin Board

I follow a lot of fun vintage/antique furniture lovers on Pinterest.com and I am always inspired by the amazing pieces they find. I have looked for something that I can use in the office for more storage, but also be pretty. I have too much stuff, and not enough functional storage/display space for it all.

I have all my furniture moved into the home office and spent the day yesterday staging pieces. I have too much, so I believe some of it will have to come out and maybe work better in my bedroom. Nothing is actually hanging on walls yet. It’s all propped up, so I can live with it for a week to see if I like it. Yah, some of it has to come out. I want to be a minimalist in my heart, but my brain says, it ain’t gonna happen.

Today, I measured a spot in the office that would be a good place to put some storage. Since I’ve decided not to keep my farm table in the middle of the room, it won’t feel as crowded with one more piece. So, I designed this:

I do love that Google Sketchup program! It measures just 40 inches wide, perfect for the spot, and gives me 16 cubbies for display and storage, with another 12-inch high shelf on the bottom for some baskets to store even more. I even thought putting some cute table legs on it would be nice, and raise it up to give me space below for whatever. Functional and pretty. My only thing is that I am NOT good at figuring out how to make notches for my shelving. I’m thinking that I may have to employ my uncle to show me so I can try it out.

The other thing I discovered today was this from Whisper Wood Cottage on the DIY blog.

I love that she shared how to make it. I have a TON of foam insulation sheets from a photography project just taking up space in the garage, and really all I need is the fabric to do it. I am thinking of making something and putting it above my desk that is so big, and the wall is missing something behind it. Whatcha think?

So, while I mull around the ideas some more, I will probably slowly work to put things away until I can think about the next storage piece of furniture to build. I have entirely TOO much junk, people! But, alas, I cannot seem to part with it. What gives?

Also, you have until 8 p.m. CST this Friday to enter the Drop Shoppe giveaway from the last post on the blog.
