Nothing Better Than Some Old Chippy Windows

Feels like it’s been a little while since I’ve given an update. It has. I’m at the point where I need more than just my hands so things have been a bit at a standstill. The chandelier still is a problem. Grrr. But, I ordered some new parts for it and we’ll tackle it again later. Why are these houses wired with NO overhead lights, and just switches to outlets? Huh? So weird!

Yesterday, we put my old chippy windows up. Now, get this. I built the ledge because I was so fearful of hanging the windows on the wall. They are heavy, they are old. Granted, I didn’t pay a lot for them, but still. I didn’t want them crashing down and glass shattering everywhere. Hence building the ledge. However, I did NOT take into account the weight of the windows and the fact that they would be top-heavy. Add in the ledge that isn’t wide enough to let them lean far enough. So, clever configurations commenced. Meet, heavy duty velcro! Those puppies are NOT coming down! They are, in fact, leaning, but the tops are being sucked to the wall with velcro. Fabulous!:)

I have four of these windows (purchased from the lovely ladies of The Swan Cottage). I thought I would put up three, but it would cramp up that wall, so I went with two, leaving about two feet extra on each side for something else, maybe some sconces or art, or who knows. I slid the dresser I antiqued last week over where it will be positioned to get a feel…verdict: LOVE. Just plain ‘ol LOVE.

Jake is coming over tonight and we’re moving my flooring home from the studio. To save money, I am using this ginormous piece of faux wood flooring that is a sheet of vinyl. Originally purchased for studio setups, now it will go in here. It will certainly polish off the look. The hard part is that it’s HUGE. It’s HEAVY, and maneuvering it through the hall way will be interesting. But, it’s costing me nothing but hard labor. I’ll take it. I wish I could have afforded to do the white washed laminate flooring I saw at Lowe’s. Maybe in my next life.

So, that’s the update, thus far!

Sabrina - I love these, Holly! I have a friend who has several b&w wedding pictures in old windows like this and it is stunning. Are you considering putting some of your beautiful photos in them?

Kim - looks awesome!
i want to have an entire hallway full of old, chippy, paned french doors, hung on their sides. On each pane, I plan to mount an ever-changing array of recent kids’ artwork, snapshots, whatever. I like the idea of being the curator of my family’s ever-changing art gallery!
