When I first started tackling this project for the Home Office Remodel, window treatments were a dilemma. Probably not so much now. Why? Because when you draw it out, you can visualize better. Now, my only dilemma is just the rods.
I really liked these panels from Pottery Barn. I was on a mission to find them cheaper. Mind you, I need the 96″ set because they will hang nearly ceiling to floor.

I guess in the grand scheme of things I only need two – my earlier dilemma was that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep my original rods that were simply two small ones on either side of the window top, or put a long rod across the entire window (most likely the one in my bedroom currently). But, as I was drawing out my plans, I knew that the two smaller rods were best. So, $118 plus free shipping through tomorrow I could probably live with. I found some on Overstock.com but they were too sheer.
Spending over $100 on window treatments is a cringe in itself for me, so I have to make the rest or re-purpose something else…hence the current black rods I already own. I paid $12 for a pair at IKEA a few years ago (refer to BEFORE pic).
Now, my plan is to create a decorative wood trim – along these lines, but more the shabby style:

I bought my mom a mitre saw last year and I’m really good at using it! Photo credit.
Here is my drawing – I drew in kind of what I wanted for the deco trim – I just can’t do the bottom portion of the window because of the existing built in ledge. I also want it more “flat” on the top and will add a decorative scroll piece. I figure 6 inches from window top to top of trim. Then, six more inches to ceiling…it will be a tight fit!
Like my drawing? HA! I even used a little sampling of “Sharkey Gray” paint! So, It would be a wood trim that is white and antiqued with glazing. Then, the curtains would hang on each side with the two existing rods.
In your opinion…leave the rods black or paint them white? Or ditch them for something different/ What would you do?

Jeannie - I say paint them black so there is a contast, an gives it a different texture
Iris - I say use the black ones
That’s what I would do!
Audra Little - I say white.. you don’t want all the attention to go straight to the rods.. or get a brushed silver.. The focus should be the wood
Holly - THanks all for the opinions! It helps! I’m probably not going to say what I did until its all done so I can show a picture! LOL Off to buy the supplies today!
