It’s been a weird week so far. This weekend, I had my uncle cutting plywood for me, thinking I was going to jump on making my desk. My brother and my uncle helped bring home the floor on Monday night, so there was that to do as well. Turns out, my body was saying something different. I wasn’t feeling up to par all week. I just sorta melted and didn’t do much of anything. On Wednesday, my grandpa was taken to the hospital with pneumonia, which freaked us all out a bit. He is feeling better, and for that I am thankful. We hope he gets to go home today. It put a little wrench in stuff because I couldn’t go to the hospital because I wasn’t feeling well. And, mom was there so I didn’t have second hands to attempt to do the last two major projects I needed help with.
Well, yesterday, I got my second wind. I managed to move this huge roll of flooring around, unroll it, get it trimmed enough to even get across the floor, and put it down. All by myself. Yeah. To give you an idea, the room is like 115 inches one way and at least three more feet the other way. The floor roll, three feet even wider and longer than the room. As I mentioned in my previous post, the floor was something I purchased for my studio. It’s vinyl and I got it from Lowe’s. I ordered it and knew it was a better option than laminate because I could move it around and it was more durable. It got used really good in the studio and for that I am happy.
However, now that I’m not shooting in the studio warehouse anymore, it had no use there. So, in a sense, it was free for the home.

When you finally get a piece this large into a room, you have to cut a little bit at a time until you can slowly get it fitted. I had no idea it would be this hard. I’m learning that when I think something won’t be hard, it probably will be. And, if I think something will take a day, I start adding on a second day for good measure.

There is LOTS of extra I cut off, just to get it in the room! I am saving it though. I’m sure there is some sort of crafty project or other that I can use this with.

Besides being free, I feel like the vinyl is a better option for my crafty area. If I spill stuff on it, I won’t ruin it like laminate. I didn’t glue it down (I know, I know – professionals: shut up!) because I felt like if I did mess it up, I could get rid of it easier and wasn’t scraping and pulling to get glue off to take it out.

With a little quarter round on the edges, it looks great. What a difference huh? Mind you, when I was done, that energy burst I got was completely gone. Pretty wiped for the rest of the evening. I did this all, by myself, in less than a day!

I moved the dresser back in place where I want it. The blank/craft lamp shades I ordered came in, so I put those on my milk glass lamps I got from ETSY (eventually, I want to cover those shades with some fabric and an idea I have). I pulled up the tape and it looks like this now.

I started putting in the new outlet fixtures and need to shop for a new register for the floor. Something pretty. Before I can fill up the room, there are still things I need to do. Like, find curtains! Yah, still. I check Pottery Barn again, and they are now not shipping till mid-April! So, I think we’ll be making them. This weekend, it’s all about the desk. I gotta get that thing done so I can start moving things back into the office.
